May 15, 2006It’s my birthday…. And for my birthday, my thoughtful and generous wife bought me a brand new Tascam 2488!!! 24 tracks of hard drive recording magic with onboard effects and a CD writer built in for mastering. My little Fostex DMT-8 has served me well, but I am so stoked to see what I can do with an additional 16 tracks. Stay tuned.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

March 26, 2006The brand spanking new and much improved Sick is complete! Please go check it out on my Music page. If you’re familiar with the original version, you’ll recognize this… only without the God-awful guitar tone, soggy cardboard sounding repetitive drums and fingernail on chalkboard vocals (replaced by slightly less obnoxious vocals). I am very happy with how it turned out…. Holy fuck can I play guitar! … but then we knew that.

November 21, 2005 – Chloe’s Song is now posted on the Music page. Go there NOW!

Also, a more listenable version of BadElvis is now up there too… aaaahhhh the magic of a half-decent soundcard!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

October 26, 2005   Alright. So I finished recording BadElvis almost 2 months ago, but the MP3 that I managed to produce has a significant amount of clipping, hiss and distortion. I have been trying to find a way to fix it ever since, but have not yet managed to. All this time I have been itching for people to hear the song, so I am breaking down and putting the current, noisy version of the song up here. I promise I will eventually have a much better version of both BadElvis and Haunt Me up here (as Haunt Me has a bit of clipping in it as well), but in the meantime I’m anxious for people to hear the song. So go to the Music page and listen to BOTH of these songs… and try to see past the production issues.

Brand new song, Chloe’s Song is finished except for one remaining vocal track… which I currently can’t finish due to a shitty head and chest cold. Soon as I heal, song will be finished and posted up here.

August 28, 2005 –  At long last…. Haunt Me in its current incarnation is now up on the Music Page. This is an un-mastered version of the song and is conspicuously lacking percussion… a decision I am second-thinking at this point. Anyway, listen and fall in love… and let me know what you think of this version.

July 16, 2005  Not much news…. Not much activity. Couple brief points of interest:

Troy re-emerged weeks ago. We have not spent any quality time together, and have not made any progress toward recording or playing though…. I’d like to say we’ll be playing a few shows before the end of summer, but I really have no idea

I have created a NothingBox  MySpace page where you can enjoy our signature musical stylings while simultaneously surfing through
thousands upon thousands of unique and captivating models' portfolios comprised of such timelessly classic poses as "girl in bra
takes picture in mirror", "girl with nose ring gives finger to camera", and the timeless "closeup of girl's ass devouring a thong".
Please expose yourself to some culture (or at least expose yourself to people exposing themselves) at:

www.MySpace.com/nothingbox

And last but not least, we will have some NothingBox T-Shirts available before too long, and I’d like to know who’s interested. Send me an e-mail at nothingbox@gmail.com

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

March 29, 2005OK… in bizarre Nothing Box news, my drummer Troy has vanished. Gone. No sign of him. No trace. So…. What the fuck am I supposed to do? We already missed out on one show because of it, and we have two more coming up… I’m thinking that he must be replaced… at least temporarily. Anybody interested in auditioning should e-mail me at tauntonbroken@icqmail.com

In other NB news, we have BadElvis, For You, J-WOL, Chloe’s Song and now Haunt Me on deck. Both Haunt Me and BadElvis are underway. Probably Haunt Me will be next on this site from Nothing Box

Write down March 28th, 2005 as the day that Antithetical Medical Predator was born… WTF is that? AMP is, of course, the Evil Nurse that lives inside my head… In recent weeks, I have rediscovered the joy of shred (along with the re-emergence of articulation and fine motor control in my hands)... and while I recognize that this perverse, masturbatory form of musicianship has no place whatsoever in my Nothing Box material, I fear that without a proper outlet, uncontrollable guitar "weedling" might start slipping into the NB songs... I can't let that happen. So, AMP has been born, and she serves a simple and self-indulgent purpose: no holds barred, senseless guitar-shred-til-you-puke-o-retardation. Don't look to this beast for any substance or longevity... AMP will leave you wasted and spent... feeling violated and dirty... but AMP doesn't love you... oh no... AMP doesn't love you.

AMP will make a few people from my past very happy… happy that I can still wank with the best (most pathetic) of them. A wise man (or at least a man who enjoys extolling his “wisdom” at every opportunity he gets) recently warned me, “Shred is like lice. It spreads… and nobody wants to play with you” to which I replied, “It’s ok. I don’t play with anyone anyway”. This wise man, who for the sake of this story we’ll call Jer (let’s say… Jeremy J. Jackson) then responded by saying, “Still, even if you don’t ever meet anyone else…. You still don’t want lice”. Wise words indeed. Well, hopefully the emergence of AMP will keep the lice contained, and keep the un-infested material of Nothing Box safe.

Look for Used to Shred as AMP’s first song. I expect to have it up on the site in the next couple of weeks.

July 24, 2004 – Ladies and Gentlemen……. Idiots and Sheep. It’s now on the Music page for your listening pleasure. This isn’t the best version I could have hoped for, but I wanted to get the song up here finally. You’ll notice at 3:31 into the song my Fostex’ own contribution to the song…. A little “blip” that turned up two nights ago. Fucking technology. I hate it. Anyway, please give the song a listen and let me know what you think. I still haven’t gotten the lyrics up on the Words page, but I’ll get that done soon. Next up…… BadElvis or For You… I haven’t decided yet.

June 22, 2004 – Fixed! Alive is now up on the site in STEREO! Enjoy!

June 19, 2004 – Alive!!!! Yes Alive!!!! It’s complete and I have uploaded a version to my MUSIC page, but the bad news is the crappy freeware software I use to create the sound files wasn’t working properly and all I have is a crummy mono version for now… I’ll upload a better version shortly. Now onto Idiots and Sheep…. Stay tuned.

May 23, 2004  OK… Long time – no update…. Doesn’t mean I haven’t been busy though. I’ve got five - count ‘em FIVE new songs to be recorded. One of which, a very obscure cover called Alive (no not Pearl Jam), is about 90% recorded. Unfortunately I fractured my elbow in an early spring street hockey game when I was viciously attacked by numerous huge Neanderthals with blood in their eyes… frightening. Anyway, bottom line is that kept me out of the studio for a few weeks…. But I’m back! And here’s what’s going on:

Alive: Song is so close to done. One more guitar track and a vocal track and it’ll be up here. Cover of something no-one would guess I would cover… I don’t think. There is no forgivable excuse for not having this done by the end of the month… so expect to see it some time in July.

BadElvis: He, in all his resident evil, is most likely on deck after Alive. He’s been fully written since January 2003, but I need to be very focused to record this one…. Truth is he might get bumped by Idiots and Sheep because I am too excited about that tune… we’ll see. Lyrics are up on the WORDS page if you’re interested.

For You: Written back in 2003, this one will follow either I&S or BadElvis, or perhaps both, to be recorded. I want to get at least one heavier tune complete before I tackle this mellow one. Don’t want to be classified a one-trick-pony. Lyrics can be found on the WORDS page.

Idiots and Sheep: I am sooo stoked about this one. This is some really inspired lyrical work if I do say so myself…. And I do! I just finished writing the music for this last night, and I am seriously considering bumping production on everything else to get this one done and up on the site. I need to get the words up here in the meantime, because you NEED to see them.

Chloe’s Song: So, as a firm believer in the impact of juxtaposition, I have been writing this song in parallel with Idiots and Sheep. Music for this is complete and I have the lyrics about 50% complete. I will not rush this, as obviously it means an immense amount to me. I hope to have a song as beautiful as Goodnight when I’m done. Wouldn’t want to start any sibling scraps.

So…. as you can see, I have been busy. Now it’s time to get the grunt work done and get the stuff recorded and uploaded. I assure you, you will not be disappointed. There’s something for everyone here…. Dark, Heavy, Classic, Pretty (yes, pretty)…..

Please make sure you check in regularly over the next little while – There should be songs coming out of the wordwork!

January 27, 2004 – NEW SONG UPLOADED!!!! Yes indeed, people, at long last Terrified is up on the site. This version has a few issues which I will fix shortly, such as some issues with the mix, a skip shortly after the 5:00 minute mark and too much effect on the vocals, but I wanted to get a version up here ASAP. Check it out and let me know what you think.

January 8, 2004  - Happy New Year once again. Well, I have one less excuse now…. My previously expressed hatred for my drum machine has been remedied…. with a brand new drum machine that I got for Christmas from my son, Jake (with some help from his Mom, I should think). This thing is great. Extremely versatile and dynamic…. consequently it is very easy to get caught up in minutiae and for the programming process to become arduous… but the results are well worth the pain. Great sounding drums with realistic, human sounding execution. Sweet.

Last night, I finished the drum parts for Terrified, so there is no excuse for me not to have the song recorded within the next week or so. When I do, I will immediately upload it to the site.

In the meantime, you can check the WORDS page for the lyrics to the 3 newest songs, Terrified, BadElvis and For You. MP3’s to follow imminently (I hope).

I’ll also be recording a couple of cover tunes. I won’t spoil the surprise (for anyone who actually gives a shit), but suffice it to say that at least one of the songs is NOT something anyone would expect…. I don’t think. Peace.

December 1, 2003Jesus! It’s been just about a year since I updated this thing. Not that I haven’t been busy, but most of it has had little to do with music. The highlight is easily the birth of my daughter, Chloe on August 8. She’s beautiful and complicated and already seems a bit pissed off that people are so stupid (especially Dad). In music news, I have three complete tunes (Terrified, BadElvis and For You) ready to be recorded plus a number of fragments to work with… I just totally lack the motivation to lay down the drums.

The basement has long since been completed, and I have a sweet little studio set-up down there…. I bought a new acoustic / electric last week (Takamine EG334SC)… I have no excuses, except absolutely no free time and a hatred for my drum machine.

January 2, 2003Happy New Year! This year I resolve to complete more than 2 songs. I have another new song written. It’s called BadElvis, and I don’t know when I’ll get a chance to get it recorded and up on the site. My studio is currently torn apart pending the finishing of my basement. As soon as I get the studio back together, I will endeavor to record Terrified and Bad Elvis (and hopefully more tunes I write between now and then) and get them up here on the site.

October 5, 2002 - At long last!!!! I have finished writing a new song. It's called Terrified and I need to get my ass motivated to go downstairs and record the fucking thing. It's the prospect of laying down the drum tracks that puts me off. My shitty 2nd hand Yamaha drum machine speeds up and slows down (not unlike working with a real drummer!)... it's a freakin' nightmare. Anyway, I will eventually bite the bullet and get it recorded and posted up here on the Music page. I'll let you know.

July 10, 2001 - OK... How's this for news? I have a bitch of a writer's block and haven't accomplished anything in MONTHS!!! Nothing! I pray to God that it'll be gone soon and I can resume writing and demoing for the disc. We'll see. In the meantime, check out the stuff I do have up here on the site and drop me a line in my guestbook and/or look me up on MSN (See Contact page for MSN ID)

April 28, 2001 - Two more songs uploaded to the music page: Crawl and Cage. Crawl is a short instrumental (a la Pink Floyd). Cage is about 4 or 5 years old, but fits in with the theme of this recording, so I may include it on the Broken disk. Let me know what you think.....

April 21, 2001 - New song written : Crawl. This one's an instrumental borrowed HEAVILY from Pink Floyd. I'll get it and Cage up on the site in the next day or so. Also working on Why Aren't You Laughing II and an as of yet un-named acoustic tune. Check back soon and often for new clips.

April 10, 2001 - Music!!! We finally have music!!! I've uploaded 6 demo versions of songs eventually to be considered for the Broken disk. These are digital 8 track recordings, so I'm not going to win any production awards, but they're good enough to give you an idea of what the songs are all about. Just click on the "Music" link on the menu and check it out. Leave me a message in my Guestbook and let me know what you think.

Thanks to Mike Doyle for all his help in converting the sound files.

Peace.

April 4, 2001 - Well, by now you've probably noticed that I have a completely redesigned site, thanks to Taren Web Design and specifically Steve "Skull" Saunders (see my LINKS page for a link to their site). We just made the 2000 hit mark on the old site before changing over. I think you'll find the new site has a much better look and feel, but I'm extremely interested in hearing your feedback, so please don't hesitate to leave a message in my guestbook with your comments.

With the new website on-line, my former problems with uploading music should be a thing of the past, and I will be posting some music clips within the next week or so…. (I mean it this time). I also plan on radically updating the pictures to make them more relevant to this project. Keep checking back often to keep up to date on the progress of the project.

I've currently got 7 songs completed and recorded (Digital 8-track demos) and have been struggling with a writer's block, but I think I'm through that now, so recording should resume shortly. In the meantime I'll get a few of the existing demo tracks up on the site for you to hear.

Thanks to Steve Saunders for the new web design and to Barry Kilner for hosting the new site.
